Where is Ehime

Shikkoku Welcome to Ehime 1st years! You probably have a lot of questions racing through your head right now. What will my new Japanese home be like? What will my schools be like? What will the Ehime JETs be like? Am I bringing enough stuff? Am I bringing too much?

Well, whatever you're questions may be, know that we here at AJET as well as the rest of the Ehime JETs are here for you to help make your transition to your new life here in Ehime as pleasant as possible.

But where is Ehime? As you probably know, Japan is separated into 5 major regions, Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikkoku and The Okinawa Islands. For you Ehime JETs, your Japanese life will take place on the smallest of the 4 major islands of Japan, Shikkoku.

What does Ehime mean?
Love Princess
The word Ehime is broken up into two kanji. The first kanji means "love" and the second means "princess." Until the Meiji Restoration, Ehime was referred to as Iyo Province. Ehime is famous for the "mikan" or mandarian orange. Around winter time, you will see boxes and boxes of these delicious fruits everywhere. Some of you might even be lucky enough to receive them for free from your local obachans. :)
