For our first installment of Mican PhotoMaps, there was no other place I wanted to introduce more than Matsuyama Castle.

Take a look at the post below if you’re looking for a place to visit in Matsuyama City and want to know what to expect, and remember, for this series we need your photos and descriptions of your favorite places across Ehime. What place will you write about?

This is Matsuyama Castle.

The hike is pretty short. There are two paved pathways and one unpaved. The paved pathways are lit by street lights at night. There’s also a ropeway and chairlift, which are in operation until closing time around 5:00.

Have a seat one one of the many benches and eat an ice cream from the small souvenir shop. They also have orange juice on tap.

The view of the sunset from the castle grounds is always stunning. Look out for the crows. At sunset, they gather in the trees and on top of the castle. Then at dusk, they all take flight at once over the mountain.

Facilities: There is a bank of vending machines. The bathrooms are well maintained.

The castle grounds are open from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM from April to October. From November to March, the grounds open at 5:30, instead.

While the grounds are open late, the castle itself, the souvenir shop, and the ropeway close around 5:00.

It’s a great place to spend a socially-distanced afternoon, and there are so many restaurants in the surrounding area that offer omochi-kaeri

I hope you enjoy your next visit to Matsuyama Castle!

Sage is an Ehime JET. They like taking very, very long walks around the city to see all the different neighbourhoods and parks.
