The first of Shikoku’s 4 large dance festivals will be held in Matsuyama!
The “Matsuyama Yakyuken Odori” (Baseball Dance) (named “Matsuyama Odori” up to the 6th and “Matsuyama Festival” up to the 56th) dates back to 1966. Two years before that, the Tokyo Olympics were held, promoting Japan to the world.
In Shikoku, there are many “Odori” whose names are known nationwide. Tokushima’s “Awa Odori” and Kochi’s “Yosakoi Naruko Odori” are most famous. In 1939, the “Takamatsu Odori” also appeared in the prefectural capital of Kagawa. At this time, the city of Matsuyama created its famous dance and wondered, “What would a dance tour of Shikoku be like?”
