Scholarship Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: What study abroad programs are available for applicants to choose from?
    • A: Scholarship recipients are free to choose any study abroad program they wish, we have provided a few to consider as part of the application form.
  • Q: Who can apply for the Scholarship?
    • A: The Scholarship is open to 1st and 2nd grade senior high school students in Ehime Prefecture.
  • Q: How much do Scholarship recipients receive?
    • A: The Scholarship provides ¥300,000.
  • Q: How many students will be awarded the Scholarship?
    • A: The Scholarship will provide one student with the full amount of ¥300,000.
  • Q: How does the application process work?
    • A: Students will submit an application for the scholarship which includes asking for permission and recommendations from their principals, parents, your supervisor, and their ALTs. After sending their application our committee will select applicants for an in-person interview. After the second selection interview, our committee will select an applicant to give the scholarship.
  • Q: Why are you funding fewer students this year?
    • A: Last year we offered up to two students a Scholarship amount of ¥100,000. However, because the full cost of the study abroad programs are greater than this amount, neither student could participate due to financial burdens. We have significantly increased the Scholarship amount and are offering it to one applicant.
  • Q: Is ¥300,000 enough to go on a study abroad program?
    • A: The Scholarship is enough to pay for some study abroad programs depending on their location and duration, applicants may choose to pay for more expensive programs and put the scholarship towards the total amount.
  • Q: Do I need to seek permission from my school before promoting the Scholarship to students?
    • Yes, you will need to seek the permission of your supervisor and vice principal/principal in order to ensure they are happy with you to promote the scholarship to students?
  • Q: My school has refused permission, is there anything I can do?
    • If your school has refused permission, your students can not participate in the scholarship process. However, you can opt to get involved in the scholarship committee to help us raise funds and help us select the candidates.
  • Q: Do students need parent/guardian permission to apply for the scholarship?
    • Yes, students will need to obtain the permission of their parent/guardian as part of the application process.
  • Q: Do students need a reference from their ALT?
    • Yes, students will need to obtain a reference from their ALT as part of the application process.
  • Q: My students are disinterested, how can I encourage my students to apply for the scholarship?
    • There are many ways you could encourage your students to apply for the scholarship. We would encourage them to think about the opportunities of going abroad by planning a lesson – in agreement with your JTE – about foreign countries, or making it a topic at your English Club.
  • Q: How do I donate?
    • In person to any member of AJET. But, reaching out to Christian Olson, our scholarship chair, and Bria Hemphill, our treasurer would be best as it helps us keep track of donations. You can find us at all AJET activities, but please reach out to us through our AJET email if you can’t make it to any of our upcoming activities.
  • Q: Can I donate digitally?
    • Unfortunately no. We hope to make it possible to donate online in the future.
